At Willmott Park Primary School, Auslan is offered from Grade 1 to Grade 3

The students have Auslan once a week for a fifty-minute lesson. The Auslan program teaches students to understand the role language plays in communicating with others and conveying messages, without using their voices.

Students at WPPS have a long standing tradition of participating in the Performing Arts. All students participate in weekly 50 minute sessions which offer a huge range of opportunities to express themselves artistically, albeit through song or playing music, dance and movement or through acting and dramatic play.

Our program is focused on providing a lifelong love and understanding of the performing arts. Both the program offered during lesson time and the additional groups offered during lunch time is continually evolving and changing to suit the talents and interests of our budding young performers and has included such things as:

When you enrol at Willmott Park Primary School each family is allocated a House Colour. In 2023, one of our Physical Education Teachers Shayne Farrugia designed and launched the program The Willmott Cup.

Shayne worked with our student leaders and the whole Willmott student cohort to design the mascots and many other facets of the program.

Students compete all year to earn Cup Points through sports, academics, and exemplary behaviour. The program is about intra school collaboration. Collaboration between students, cohorts and staff. It is also about community involvement and parents/guardians are invited to events throughout the year.

Every Friday in Terms 2, 3, and 4, students participate in Willmott Games, by wearing their house colours and compete in fun sport games for more Cup Points.

Each season begins in Term 2 and ends in Term 4 with a Sports Day and our whole school grand final event. Keep an eye out for point updates every Friday in the newsletter.

Our House Colours and Mascots are - Stormbreakers (blue), Infernos (red), Conquerors (yellow), and Hunters (green).

Willmott Park students are also offered the opportunity to participate against other schools in our district in Interschool Sport. The sports that we compete in are:

Term 1 – Basketball, Volleyball, Tee-ball, Cricket
Term 2 – AFL, Soccer, Netball
Term 3/4 – TBC

At Wilmott Park Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths (STEAM) is taught from Years 3 – 6. Our students participate in 1 weekly 50-minute STEAM lesson.

During these lessons the students develop their curiosity with hands-on experiences that encourage them to think like scientists and engineers. They also develop fundamental skills in problem solving, design, critical thinking, risk taking, perseverance and curiosity through coding, robotics, design and 3D printing.

The Willmott Park Art program is designed to be fun, engaging and teach students to love Art and creating. Students are free to explore their creativity whilst learning and experimenting with a great range of mediums and styles.

Every term has a different focus but in general our breakdown includes:

Term 1 – Drawing
Each year level has a different focus but all involve building skills with pencil. We explore fantasy art, perspective drawing and portraiture

Term 2 – Painting
Students are taught the basics in colour theory and painting techniques. We explore various styles including pop art, realism, cubism, surrealism and renaissance painting

Term 3 – Textiles and Construction
Students are taught to create things with their hands and explore construction with cardboard and wood, stitching and embroidery and modelling with clay

Term 4 – Exploration
In Term 4 students create their own projects and are free to use the skills they have developed in previous terms to bring their vision to life.
