Ms Rachel Byrant (She/Her)

Learning Specialist Numeracy

My name is Rachel and I have been teaching at Willmott for over 10 years now.
In this time I have had experiences teaching multiple year levels, been involved with programs such as Energy Breakthrough, and at one stage lead teams such as Digital Technologies and Sustainability.

Currently I am one of four Learning Specialists with the portfolio of Mathematics. Our vision for Mathematics is for all students to feel confident, engaged and successful. We aim to bring an inquiry style approach allowing students to make connections between concepts and experience ‘real’ applications. We appreciate the value in sharing strategies and looking at different ways to solve problems.

This is a very exciting time of growth and evolution in Mathematics, not just at Willmott Park but also through the Department of Education. We pride ourselves on staying involved with Department initiatives to ensure we are providing exemplary practices.
Mr Thomas Kristof (He/Him)

Learning Specialist Literacy (Reading)

My name is Tom, and I am proud to be a Learning Specialist at Willmott Park Primary School, a place where student wellbeing, inclusion and diversity is at the core of everything we do. Our approach emerges from the innate curiosity and creativity of our students to meet the best practice of contemporary educational research and pedagogy. I have been in education for well over a decade and have had the pleasure of teaching in a diverse array of settings, year levels and subject areas.

As a Learning Specialist I help lead our dedicated community of teachers through professional learning that supports our students as learners. My particular areas of focus are the Reading Curriculum, various assessment and data practices, among others. I am passionate and invested in leading our school in the teaching and learning of the core skill of reading, and ensuring that we teach the Reading Curriculum through the lens of the best possible methodologies.
Mrs Leah Basset (She/Her)

Learning Specialist Literacy (Writing)

I am Leah Bassett and I am a Learning Specialist at Willmott Park Primary School. You might also know me as Sana’s owner! This is my 13th year of teaching and my 5th year at Willmott Park Primary School. Throughout my career I have worked in a variety of year levels and this year I am lucky enough to be a co-teacher in Grade 2E.

As the Writing Learning Specialist, I am committed to assisting teachers to develop their capacity as writing instructors to best support the students they teach by implementing initiatives, such as, the 6+1 Writing Traits, the Writing Process and Jolly Phonics . One of our aims at WPPS is to enable students to develop confidence as writers and to foster a love of writing and literature. Nothing makes me happier than hearing a student read a published piece of writing that they are proud of.
Mr Tim Murtagh (He/Him)

Learning Specialist Digi Tech and Inquiry

My name is Tim, and I am one of the newer staff members of Willmott Park Primary School. Many students recognise me as the teacher who does ‘tech stuff!’ I have been an educator for 13 years and have specialised in digital technology learning for many of those years.

As the Acting Digital Technologies & Inquiry Learning Specialist, I work with teachers and students to develop their digital literacy. I believe in the purposeful integration of digital technologies in the areas of Literacy, Numeracy and Inquiry Based Learning.

I love promoting and empowering students to be able to design and develop solutions to real world problems by investigating, utilising digital technologies and their own ingenuity!
