Junior School Council

At Willmott Park Primary we have a group of eight students who form the Junior School Council.
These include four Grade Five Vice Captains and four Grade Six Captains.

All Grade 5 students are eligible to apply for the Vice Captain roles.
All Grade 6 students are eligible to apply for the Captain roles.

Interested students write an application which is shortlisted by a group of staff using selection criteria. Once students have been shortlisted, they prepare a speech to present to the Grade 5 and 6 students and school staff. All Grade 5 and 6 students vote, along with school staff.
As a result of this vote,  four Grade Five Vice Captains and four Grade Six Captains are elected.

Being part of the Junior School Council is a privilege and great responsibility. Students need to:

  • Show commitment to being a leader in our school
  • Be a role model; showing excellent behaviour and demonstrating the school values
  • Contribute ideas and be willing to participate in school events/programs
  • Have an opinion and voice those opinions
  • Give up their own time at recess and lunch to have meetings, plan and organise events.
  • Be a team player
  • Be a creative thinker and good at problem solving
  • Be enthusiastic, fair, honest and reliable

Being part of the Junior School Council requires commitment to the following:

  • Whole School Announcements -Preparing and delivering school announcements
  • Whole School Assemblies -Assisting with the set-up and pack-up of whole school assemblies. Hosting and preparing speeches for these assemblies
  • Fundraising -Planning and organising fundraising events such as School Run4Fun Colour Explosion, Crazy Hair Day, Out Of Uniform Day, Pyjama Day. Assisting with the allocation of fundraising funds to best support the school.
  • Meetings -Attending regular meetings (usually held during lunch and recess breaks)
