Meet our Learning Specialists

Rachel Bryant

I began my career at Willmott Park as a pre-service teacher while still studying at university, and was appointed my first full time position in 2011 and the fact that I have been here ever since speaks volumes. I began my career with a passion for mathematics, worked in roles that allowed me to learn more about sports and digital technologies and now have had the privilege to expand my knowledge with writing. From these experiences I firmly believe that with the correct guidance, knowledge and motivation people can achieve success in any area.

Introducing the 6+1 Traits and Writing Process has added a new perspective in planning and is re-engaging students in their craft. The greatest strength of these programs is that they provide all students the opportunity to experience success with writing. I am looking forward to seeing the texts that the students publish with pride.

Leah Basset

I have been a teacher for 12 years and was lucky enough to join the Willmott Park family in 2018. Writing is my passion and I am thrilled to be able to share that with the teachers and students at WPPS. Everyone is a capable and creative writer, sometimes they just need a little help to unlock their ideas. The introduction of the 6+1 Traits of Writing and the Writing Process will enable all students to achieve everything they can when writing.

My favourite thing about teaching writing is the pride and excitement on the face of a student who is sharing a published piece of their work. They recognise that each stage of the process of a writer has helped them become successful, from gathering their ideas in prewriting to editing and publishing. I can’t wait to read all of the amazing writing that the WPPS students come up with in 2021!

Tom Kristoff

Tom has been a teacher for over ten years, with experience in teaching all year levels in the classroom as well as Music and Performing Arts. He is now a Learning Specialist at Willmott Park Primary School and is focussed on Reading. He is passionate about teaching children how to read and encouraging them to love reading and writing, and helping his colleagues build confident readers in their classrooms. He is equally as dedicated to student wellbeing and ensuring school is a vibrant, safe and engaging space for all.

Michelle Borderick

I am a new member to the WPPS community. I have been a passionate educator of students for over 20 years. There is nothing more rewarding than the ‘aha’ moment of a student discovering something they just learnt. I promote students to use their own minds to make sense of the world they live in.

I have enjoyed working with teachers and students in mathematics. I want to share the magnificence of mathematics and create mathematicians, who think creatively and are able to justify their strategies and answers. I want them to see the magic of discovering these answers by themselves or with a friend.

I believe that all children are capable of learning and achieving success in their learning. We want to develop curious critical thinkers. Students and teachers who work with me know that I will never give them an answer they will find themselves. The best thing I love hearing students say is, “Maths YES! Let’s do it”
